We had twelve teachers attend a conference in Layton, Utah. We learned more about ways we can help tutor students and things we can do to help more with students with disabilities. Mrs. Finlayson and Miss Veatch presented about fun activities that we did this year.
Miss Mecham and I decided to have a Harry Potter marathon, and we made butterbeer to celebrate! We used a pretty challenging recipe, but used marshmallow fluff on top! It is basically just creme soda with a bit of butterscotch flavoring. It was quite delicious, but very sugary. I heard that you can ask for a butterbeer at Starbucks and they make a special drink for you! We only made it through the first two movies before we decided it was time to go to bed. We'll try to finish the others soon! The funniest part was that Miss Mecham is TERRIFIED of spiders! She hates the part of the movies when all of the spiders are running towards the big one. Good thing Harry and Ron had their enchanted car to save them! I wish I had a flying car. It sure would make getting to school easier. I bought a special new shirt to cheer on Team USA, and my friends and I all watched the game together. Have you been watching them? It was so exciting to see the United States come together and cheer on USMNT. Did you know that Rimando and Beckerman are both players from Utah? So exciting! I saw many people the next day gathered to cheer on Mexico the next day as well. Keep watching the games - my friend Preston is flying to Brazil in the next few weeks and he has tickets to the Bronze medal game!
As you may already know, Mrs. Lookinland ordered a Tesla car. This means her new car will be 100% electric, and it will be able to go for 300-350 miles with ABSOLUTELY NO GAS! We stopped in Nephi on our way home from Las Vegas and stopped at the Tesla recharging station. At this station, a Tesla could recharge in about 20-30 minutes, and you could go another 300 miles! This means that Mrs. Lookinland could make it all the way to Las Vegas on only one stop one time! This truly is a wave of the future, as no car has ever been able to do this before. Hopefully she gets it next year and we'll be able to go for a drive! We were so lucky to see the fountains from BEHIND! Miss Lamb, Mrs. Lookinland and I really liked walking around Vegas. Miss Slade even purchased a cupcake from a VENDING MACHINE! It was really fun. I thought this was funny: I took a picture in the gardens at the Bellagio of a flower snail and sent it to my sister-in-law because my niece Charlotte LOVES snails, and she sent back a picture of Charlotte watching a snail at the exact same time! Mrs. Frost and Miss Slade LOVED their cupcakes from the amazing cupcake vending machine! There were TONS of flavors to choose from! We heard Mrs. Phelps speak! She is the mother of Michael Phelps, the 18-time medal winner. She made a lot of good points about working in a school and working hard for kids. We really learned a lot! She said that the best way to accomplish goals is to depend on relationships and motivation from around you.
Miss Lawrence got up enough courage to go sing at Jazzy's in St. George at an open mic night. We had so much fun! Can you tell Miss Lamb is learning so much from our conference? :) don't worry I took good notes for her! Mrs. Lookinland, Miss Lamb and I headed down to Las Vegas for a national conference on students who are wired differently! We laughed at how HOT the temperature is. It is quite warm! Hopefully we don't burn up too much. |
